| It was thought by many
to be the year that Geraldine would beat the Lions at Crossville Memorial
Stadium. Even though Crossville had won every home game in the series
since 1972, this was to be the year.
Geraldine was 7-0 and the Bulldogs were rated as the Number 3 Team in the State in the Alabama High School Association Class 2A poll. |

Spirit was high on both sides of the field
as Dekalb County's oldest Football series continued. But momentum
quickly turned to the Bulldogs as they scored twice in the first quarter
to take a 14-0 lead.
Things finally started clicking for the Lions midway through the second quarter as they drove down the field. |
| Steven Bouldin scored on a two yard run and
the PAT was good making the score 14-7.
After a good Crossville defensive series the Bulldogs were forced to punt, and Shane Bowman blocked the punt at the Geraldine 12 yard line. On the next play Will Brock scored and Harris' PAT tied the game 14-14. Then late in the first half Justin Campbell recovered a Bulldog fumble, and Crossville drove down the field quickly with Brock scoring again to give Crossville a 21-14 lead. If you thought the first half was exciting, you should have seen the second. Both defenses stiffened up and the hits were hard and loud. Crossville dominated the clock and kept the Bulldogs offense off the field for most of the third quarter. But Crossville could not extend its lead. Geraldine finally got things going again late in the fourth quarter with a 93 yard drive. A long pass play gave them new life, then they marched on to score with 58 seconds left and converted a 2-point play to take a 22-21 lead. |
| Geraldine thought the
game was over, but Crossville drove 53 yards in just three plays to again
take the lead. Harris' PAT was good and the score was 28-22 Crossville.
Geraldine got one last chance to score but it was not to be. A desperation pass was intercepted by Harris. It was a Great Game for the Crossville Team and Fans and those of us that love High School Football. |
